About AGIFNA
.
Azusa Street Revival changed the face of Christianity in the whole world. When the revival erupted in the newly formed congregation in 1906 at the Faith Mission in Los Angeles, rapidly spread throughout , many Pentecostals recognized the need of a greater organization and accountability. The leaders of various fellowships met in Hot Springs, Arkansas during the month of April 1914 and formed the Assemblies of God as an organization in order to promote spiritual unity and doctrinal stability. These founders constituted the First General Council of the Assemblies of God. The Lord poured out His Blessing s on this small group of believers, that in 2007, World Assemblies of God Fellowship claimed to have over 60 million members.
Pentecostal revival started in India almost simultaneously as in the United States. In 1915 Mrs. Mary Chapman came to India as an AG Missionary. But it was in November 1918, at Saharanpur, the Indian Assemblies of God was established in affiliation with the General Council of the Assemblies of God . AG Missionary Christian Shoonmaker became the first Chairman of Indian AG. Robert Cook came to Travancore in 1914, conducted Revival meetings and established churches and fellowships in many places. In 1919, a fellowship of these churches was formed in affiliation with The General Council of the Assemblies of God.
From the 1970s with the influx of Malayalees to the United States, there came quite a number of born again Christians from different churches and formed their own fellowships. The first organized missions effort of the Assemblies of God in North America was established in 1980 by Rev. C.M. Varghese, namely the India Home Mission Fund. As the number of churches in the New York Metropolitan area have increased considerably, the necessity of a regional fellowship became evident . Thus, the North Eastern Region of the Assemblies of God was formed in 1990 with Rev. K.P. Titus as the First Coordinator. It was in November 6,1993, The Assemblies of God Malayalees Fellowship of North America was established. The First Conference was held in 1995 in New York; and there the name of the Organization was changed to Assemblies of God India Fellowship of North America. It is also worthy to note that the Assemblies of God India Fellowship was officially recognized by the General Council and its president, Rev. K.P. Titus serves on the General Presbytery. Today, AGIFNA with its many member churches has the best and most blessed conference in North America. This became possible with the prayers and hard and sincere work of many. All glory and honor belongs to our Savior alone.
